My name is Bibi. I feel greatly privileged and I am really looking forward to be a participant in this year’s seminar. I am a teacher in special education for the last 12 years and have a passion for supporting learners with special educational needs.
I have a great love, passion and appreciation for the outdoors. I love hiking, reading, gardening and cooking. I am currently working on the idea of compiling a cookbook, with very basic recipes, for economically disadvantaged learners who cannot read and write in my school. The aim of this book is to teach these children a small sense of independence to be able to do basic culinary tasks for themselves. With this they will have a tool to assist in their independence, self-worth and confidence.
My motivation for my current studies is to write the oral histories, unheard voices, of ordinary South Africans, especially women soldiers, and their reasons for having joined the armed struggle. Even though numerous women played a significant role in the formation of historical events, their role and prevalence remains unsung.
